Antique English Gentlemans box with marquetry c1885

Antique English Gentlemans box with marquetry c1885

Item # 4437

Antique inlaid wood gentleman's box. It measures 11 and one half inches wide by 7 and one half inches deep by seven inches high. This antique box was made circa 1885. We believe it to be Anglo-Indian, but it could possibly have been made in Britain. The box is meticulously inlaid all over its outer surfaces in interlocking patterns of diamonds and geometric scrolls. The 2 front panels are Celtic knots. It is fitted with removable inner compartments to hold tobacco, jewelry, watches, money, etc. It is in very good original condition.

Antique gentleman's chest of drawers 1870

Antique gentleman's chest of drawers 1870

Item # 4334

Antique gentleman's chest of drawers. I don't think it ever had much to do with a plantation. Its origin is northern Europe, probably Sweden or Germany. It was made circa 1870. It appears to be made of oak, but I cannot be certain through photographs. European oak has a more closed and even grain than ours. You can see a similar chest on my website, item 3587, for comparison. The basic form of each chest is the same; note the upper bow-front drawers and the bun feet. The difference is in the level of craftsmanship. Walnut is a finer wood, and the matched veneers and turned columns are sophisticated features.
